¹⁸ “I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you^(A) and your father’s family have. You have abandoned^(B) the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baals.

²⁶ So they took the bull given them and prepared it.

Then they called^(A) on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response;^(B) no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.

³⁷ Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know^(A) that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

²⁰ “In that day^(A) I will summon my servant,^(B) Eliakim^(C) son of Hilkiah.

³ Eliakim^(A) son of Hilkiah the palace administrator,^(B) Shebna^(C) the secretary,^(D) and Joah^(E) son of Asaph the recorder^(F) went out to him.

²² Then Eliakim^(A) son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary and Joah son of Asaph the recorder^(B) went to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn,^(C) and told him what the field commander had said.
